Cameron County Juvenile Justice Department’s Border Gang Task Force works closely with the Harlingen Police Department’s Gang Eradication Team.
Border Gang Task Force Juvenile Probation Officer Abel Zapata does ride alongs with police officers during their scheduled street surveillance which include weekends and late evenings. He also supervises gang members in graffiti clean-ups on a monthly basis.
Gang Resource Coordinator Gilbert Torres is the community liaison person for ex-gang members. He coordinates community resources for assistance in education. job employment, financial assistance, etc. He also works closely with the CCJJD’s Border Gang Task Force Unit and I-IPD’s Gang Eradication Team to ensure that services were being provided to gang members in order to deter them from further gang involvement and gang activity.
